Start Things Today

Nobody is perfect.

We say above line many times but how many times we really believe that it is true. Almost every time when we are about to share our opinion with the world, we hesitate, sometimes we never share because we think it is not good enough.

Many times we compare ourselves with the best, while publishing anything over the internet, without realizing that those who are the best are actually in this business for a very long time.

Quora is a forum where the world’s best minds answer your question and they are really awesome and it is a fun place to be in that community.

One time I had a discussion with one of my friend and he said that Quora is a wonderful place to get our idea spread but he is so much fascinated by Top Quora writers that, he never bother to share his own point of view thinking that it does not have the quality which Top Quora writers maintains.

He is absolutely right, he does not have the expertise but the question is when will he acquire those abilities which will allow him to an expert. The answer is, he can only start from zero and gradually rise to the top.

I believe the fun is not at the top rather it is about the journey to the top itself. I think that is more important.

Hope you find some value from it.

Do Something About Your Dream Project

Lately I have been chatting with a few of my friends and colleagues and found one thing which is common. They have something that they want to work upon, an idea or a project which they always wanted to start.

What I found among those discussion is that they are waiting for their turn. A few of them said they are not ready yet and they need more expertise and knowledge to start their dream project and they will start only after a certain point when they feel that it is good time to start it.

dream project

I believe they are absolutely right and they don’t have enough knowledge about the subject. What I would like to suggest to all those people who are waiting to be good enough to start the project is that, you will never be good enough unless you take some steps towards your dream project.

What is stopping you to manage your time and to devote one hour of your day in the project you always wanted to do, and which is the ultimate goal in your life?

Seriously, who is stopping you to do that?

Do not focus on the outcome of that time, you may get disappointed. Be consistent to put your effort everyday and  go in the direction of the goal you always wanted to achieve.

If you think about it you’ll only need 10,000 hours of work to be awesome. It is easy if you do it everyday.

Talk to people about your goal, spread the idea and let the idea virus spread further. If lot of people connect with you and your idea, things will start to look good. But all of this starts with you taking the first step towards your goal and being consistent about it no matter what.

If you have a dream, do something about it.!!

Hope you find some value from it.

The Bucket List

Last night I watched a movie The Bucket List, this movie is about 2 guys who are in the last stage of cancer and now have only six months to live. They prepare something called a bucket list which have the list of things that they want to do before they die.

the bucket listIn their bucket list there were many items which scare the hell out of them, but since they wanted to do it, they did it anyway.

Well, I believe we all have something which we want to achieve before we die but we do not have audacity to write those things down a sheet of paper.

May I ask why..?

Why are we scared of writing it down?

I think it is the fear of failure. The fear which is deep down in our heart which says what if we can’t do it. Well I believe the first step to face that fear is to write down what we want to accomplish in our life.

It is OK to fantasize, because only those who do, accomplish it. What I learned from this movie is to prepare my bucket list before it’s too late and of course do something about it.

Hope you find some value from it.

Challenging the Status Quo

I have recently listened to one of the podcasts of James Altucher where he interviewed Duck Duck Go CEO Gabriel Weinberg.

This guy is awesome, he is the founder of a search engine Duck Duck Go, which was launched 7 years back and he is doing quite good right now. Creating a new search engine is really mind boggling and he along with his team (around 20 people) are stealing millions of users from Google every single day.

He is fighting against the most powerful company in the world, it is like Steve Jobs fighting with IBM in his days. He is challenging the Status Quo.

Steve jobs in one of his interview said that the world around us has been built by people like us, but at the same time we have been told to fit it in, and do what everybody else is doing, get a job , save some money and that’s it. Well we have an option not to be like that and if we choose to be different, sure some people might say that we have gone crazy.

Think about it, whenever Gabriel would have said that he is building a search engine better than google, everybody in the hall must have laughed at him, well not anymore.

It is OK to be laughed at for sometime, we called Steve Jobs a visionary and yet many among us do not know what it means, well in simple terms it means that seeing things what many can’t.

Steve Jobs was a visionary and so is Gabriel Weinberg. I am very grateful to James Altucher for his weekly podcasts. It is giving me strength to pursue my dreams and to be different.

Hope you find some value from it.

The Flow Experience

We all have one of those moments when time passed so quickly that we didn’t realize how. In those times we were so engrossed in our work that we didn’t notice.

Well, the psychologist call it The Flow experience and we all have it from time to time. It is one of those times where we are really happy,  like one of those moments when you are playing a sport and you feel that you are growing and becoming very good.

flowThe people who often have these experience, are likely to have more happy and fulfilling life than those who do not experience it.

In those moments we tend to become better than the current version of ourselves and we have to stretch a bit more to get better. For example we are likely to have the flow experience while playing with the guy having little bit more expertise than ourselves, and it is very fulfilling to have those moments.

We as a human being like challenges it keeps things interesting, people who don’t have any challenges are likely to be boring and unhappy.

We should all embrace challenges because it creates the flow experience and hence more fulfilling life.

Hope you find some value from it.

Forgive Yourself

Many times we are very harsh on ourselves. Often, we do not forgive ourselves for the mistakes that we have done in the past, be it a failure in a relationship or in a business.

We are our own critic, we use to criticize ourselves for all the things that didn’t work out in the past. We know our strengths and weaknesses, it is only after acknowledging all the imperfections in ourselves, and forgiving ourselves for not being perfect, we can grow further.

Professor Raj of ISB Hydrabad has said many times in his one of the courses in Coursera, that I like the most is “Life is perfect with it’s imperfections“.

It is only after forgiving ourselves, we can progress towards real growth.

Hope you find some value from it.

We All Need A Mentor

We all have been raised from childhood to achieve specific goal in our life, the goal may be getting promoted to a higher class or to win a cricket match.

In all those times we all have been looking up for guidance to the people above us and at that time they were our father, mother ,cricket coach or our big brother and we all grew up wanting to be like them.

mentorsNow that we are matured and many of us don’t have a concrete goal in front of us to achieve and our life is stable, we think this is it and we don’t feel like going an extra mile.

Well, we have always been like that, it was the mentors who were behind us who knew our true potential and pushed us further and we owe it to them big time for making us realize our potential.

I think that many of us don’t feel like having a mentor now, instead we take suggestions from the friends who are at our level only hence do not grow in our life the way we have grown in the past.

If you do not have a mentor , I would suggest to find one and follow him. For me books are one of the greatest mentor and helps me broaden my horizon.

Seth Godin, Malcolm Gladwell, Dale Carnegie, James Altucher and many others are my mentors who inspires me to think different and be unique and take risks and I am grateful to them. I am still searching for a mentor who can guide me personally who can help me reach my potential, I know I’ll find him one day because I am searching for him.

Hope you find some value from it.

Help Others

We can not out give the universe. It means that what goes around comes back around in many folds.

From the very beginning we are told by our parents to help everybody but I think somewhere along the line we have forgotten this virtue.

I work in an MNC and I have found that there are very few people who are genuinely interested to help.

help othersMany times we make a deal that if I am helping you that means one day you have to return the favor(I did that too) but I have found that it is much more fulfilling and satisfying if we are helping with no expectation of getting it back and leaving that with the universe.

The companies which have grown quite large have also become cold and icy, nobody is interested in solving problems because everybody is doing their job and helping others is not part of the job description. In that place if you lend a helping hand to another human being, you will be remembered and you’ll feel good about it.

So next time if you see anybody in trouble, try to be genuinely interested in helping them.

Hope you find some value from it,

Why You Should Listen More

There is a message in everything, we should learn something from the fact that we have two ears and one tongue and it tells us, that we should listen twice as much as we speak.

So why don’t we.

We all want to be heard attentively, so why don’t we listen and get the other person’s opinion first, before talking.

listen_moreMany times the problem get solved just by listening to the other person. In the book, How to Win Friends and Influence People the author Dale Carnegie describes the active listening of  Sigmund Freud as Soul Penetrating and extraordinary and says that he listened so attentively that he didn’t have any idea of what it is meant to be listened like that.

In his book he also mentioned that at one time President Abraham Lincoln during the darkest hour of Civil war, called one of his neighbor to the White House to discuss a matter, Lincoln talked for hours and went over all the arguments for and against the matter, in the end he did not even ask for his neighbor’s opinion, all he wanted was a sympathetic listener to whom he could unburden himself. That is all we ever want when we are in trouble.

Listening is the virtue of all the great people around us and we should practice it more.

Hope you find some value from it.

Why Playing Safe Not Is Good For You

We all want to play safe in life and we are so focused in playing safe that we don’t play at all.

Malcolm Galdwell in his book David and Goliath mentions that people who have seen the worst and came out of it are more courageous than those who have never had the experience of it at all.

Most of us live in peace and we don’t have anything forced upon us except for the brothers and sisters in middle east who are fighting a war. In rest of the world where we have peace and harmony we don’t go out of the way and we don’t take risk at all because we have options and we choose being safe.

playingsafeWe think we are here forever and things are not going to change, well that’s not true, not true at all. We all know about the crisis happening every now and then and if we are not prepared we might get hit.

So being prepared means having an experience of taking risk and going out of the comfort zone again and again and making a habit of living outside of the comfort zone.
It’s OK to be afraid, but it’s not OK to be afraid of being afraid.

Hope you find some value from it.
