Why Do You Cry I Asked My Heart

Think about the time when everything looked awesome since you had thought through every bit of your life and figured all out. You were extremely confident about your future and everything was incredible. You bragged about your accomplishments and left people in awe and you were very proud of that moment.

Let’s call that person Raghu.

It’s really awesome to be like Raghu who knows it all and has figured everything out. I was that person, and I am very sure that you were too at some point of time in your life.

Fast forward it to some more years and now try to remember the time when the future looked absolutely dismal. You were depressed and the horror of not knowing what would happen sucked all your life energies. You hated that time but it made you stronger (more on that later).

Let’s call him Ram.

Raghu has no idea that his future self would turn out to be Ram. Raghu was so certain and confident about his future and life, on the contrary, Ram must be thinking how stupid Raghu was.

We all have been in the position of Raghu and Ram many times over in our life and acknowledging the cycle of Raghu & Ram is a great revelation for me.

In the movie “Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara”, Javed Akhtar has beautifully put this expression of life in his words.

Jab jab dard ka baadal chaya
Jab ghum ka saya lehraya
Jab aansoo palkon tak aya
Jab yeh tanha dil ghabraya

Humne dil ko yeh samjhaya
…Dil aakhir tu kyun rota hai
Duniya mein yunhi hota hai

Yeh jo gehre sannate hain
Waqt ne sabko hi baante hain
Thoda ghum hai sabka qissa
Thodi dhoop hai sabka hissa
Aankh teri bekaar hi nam hai
Har pal ek naya mausam hai
Kyun tu aise pal khota hai
Dil aakhir tu kyun rota hai

Every time the cloud of pain loomed
A tear filled my eyes
When this lonely heart was scared
I told my heart ‘Why do you cry for such reason? This happens everywhere in this world’

These dark lonely times, time has distributed them to all.
Some sadness is part of everyone’s story,
Some sunshine is a part of everyone’s life
Your eyes are damp for no reason
Every second is a new season
Why do you waste your time over such matters
Why do you cry I asked my heart

Why you should read books

#AnIdeaADay #YoganandaParamhansa #AutobiographyOfAYogi
Good morning everyone. How are you doing today…!!

When I was in college I used to think that I know so much and I was very proud of it.

Now whenever that thought come across my mind I say to myself ,”You know nothing, Faisal Raza”. (You see what I did there :P)

Let me explain,

Going to the gym was a thing that I used to think people do only to get women and to be cool and if you know me and my circle at that time you would understand why I used to think that way.

you see in my circle, that was the ultimate goal for the gym and it simply passed onto me and since I had different goals I never cared for going to gym.

The interesting thing is that I was not wrong, I just didn’t know back then and that’s what I am going to talk about in this video.

Whatever we do in our life we do on the basis of things we know and funnily enough, we know it from the people we are surrounded with.

and you know what.. that’s a dead end.

Think about it, your domain knowledge is directly proportional to knowledge of the people you know and meet and if your circle is just this small you’ll end up actually knowing nothing.

That’s terrible.

So that’s the problem and to solve this we have to increase our domain knowledge and that can only be done through experience which by the way comes only with time but you know what.. there is an alternative and which is to read books.!!

Reading books is like learning from other people’s mistake , people who were actually successful in their endeavors and led an amazing life.

You would be stuck with your body and consciousness forever but books give us a chance to see and experience things from author’s point of view and that is so beautiful.

For example, after reading the “Autobiography of A yogi” by Yogananda Paramhansa I know what it is to be born 100 years back and what are the challenges faced in those days. How that is different from the world we are living in today(and trust me it’s totally different). In a certain way, I went on a journey with Yogananda Paramhansa through his book and it was awesome. These extraordinary journeys can only be traveled through books

So read books ..!!!

Thank you so much for watching the video..!

The Blackout in Shaheen Bagh

After 10 hours of the blackout, I went to office despite the fact that I couldn’t see anything properly in my house even in the daytime(Yeah that’s how closely we have built the buildings around here). When there is no electricity darkness prevails everywhere and it’s really difficult to do anything properly in my house.

But that wasn’t the hardest part.

The troublesome of all was the fathomless night which didn’t seem to end at all. It’s really difficult to make a person understand the importance of anything if he doesn’t know what will happen if he loses it.

We enjoy the benefits of electricity so much that we have forgotten about the misery it can bring upon us if it is not there anymore. It has become the most important commodity that we consume after air, water, food, and shelter.

It’s difficult to notice the importance of electricity particularly in metro cities where it never goes off and because of that, we are habituated to it. We almost think of it as a natural phenomenon, but hey it’s not.

Switch off the fan or AC for about 10 minutes and you would realize how important it is and then imagine how difficult it would have been for any person to live without it.

We are so busy with our life that we barely notice things around us, therefore, tend to appreciate less. There are plenty of things out there to be grateful for, though many of us live a life full of ungratefulness which is a road to misery and pain.

We are surrounded by the inventions that have changed the world many times over sadly we barely notice any of them. However, the only time we do remember them is once they are not serving us anymore. Thankfully I realized the importance of electricity in my life.

The Roadside Ustaad

Music is a form of expression that we all love and it connects different culture and traditions. You can be traveling to a foreign country not knowing anything about the language they speak yet if you stumble upon any good music playing in their language you might pause and take a moment to enjoy. A good music relaxes us and make us more efficient in our endeavors.

Sonu Nigam, legendary playback singer, musician, and actor did a great job where he disguises himself as a homeless and  went ahead to sing along a roadside with a harmonium(a traditional musical instrument of India). He was phenomenal and many people stood there to watch him perform even though he looked terrible because of his disguise.

Sonu Nigam shared his learning for the whole experience that we often seek happiness in the future. We think that achieving more is the way to happiness. We always carve for the next milestone to accomplish. In the meantime, we forget about the present where the happiness actually lies.

Why Extracurricular Activities Are Important

I get a lot of chance to interact with different kind of people and I use this opportunity very well. Mass Communication is the flagship course of Jamia Millia Islamia, and I was astonished to see it’s alumni. In my interactions with Mass Communication students of Jamia Millia Islamia I keep asking questions about the opportunities they have and things that they are doing apart from college.

A lot of students were in stress because of the pressure from the examination and only a few of them were actually thinking big. It reminded me of my college days and the way I used to be so stressed out because of the examinations.

When we are in college we have a tiny horizon and it’s inconceivable to think beyond the college. It’s true that the examinations are the only way to compare the cognitive ability of a person but lot more abilities are needed in real life and judging a person only by his ability to remember things may not give the actual picture.

We put all our energies and potential in scoring higher but I have realized that the more we involve ourselves in extracurricular activities the more we learn from them. These activities help us in making us more aware of our surroundings.

I believe that schools and colleges are there to broaden our horizons which they do but there is still room for improvement.

Why You Should Smile

I used to have a hard time smiling at people, it was so tough and seemed useless to me. I also hated when people used to tell that I was wrong so nobody ever told me about it and smiling was a rare phenomenon for me for a long time.

A person who has a hard time smiling will probably have a difficult relationship with oneself too and it is more likely that he would be less happy with himself and that’s exactly was the case with me.

Let me tell you a secret, next time you encounter someone just smile genuinely and what you’ll notice is that the other person would also smile emphatically. When I started implementing this I was really nervous since I had never done something like this in my life before and it was really difficult but I did it anyway. It turned out to be a really an awesome experience and I have never stopped smiling since then.

A smile is contagious and we can’t abstain from smiling if the other person is genuine in his action and then for a very short time we become happy and it feels so good.

To quote a beautiful line from the book  “How To Win Friends And Influence People” by Dale Carnegie on smile.

It costs nothing but creates much. It enriches those who receive,
without impoverishing those who give. It happens in a flash and the
memory of it sometimes lasts forever

Who Killed the Goose That Laid The Golden Eggs?

P-PC Balance stands for “Production – Production Capability” Balance, a term which I got to know after reading the book “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change“.

We all have heard of “The goose that laid the golden egg” story, where the man gets a golden egg every day from the goose. In this story the egg is Production and the goose is Production Capability. Well, we know what happened in the end of the story and that is exactly what happens in the real life scenarios too. It’s funny how we have forgotten the lesson we have learned from the story and seldom implement it in the real life.

The author talks about taking care of “Production Capability” and shares by various examples on how often we neglect the goose in real life. Taking time out to nurture the relationship is an activity that enhances “Production Capability” whether it is business or personal life it always does.

In any organization, we all know what Production is and all of our focus and energy is in Production but the organizations really thrive only after taking care of its “Production Capability” which is the people who are working there and that is achieved only by building a great relationship with the people who are working together.

Synergy at Workplace

Synergy is the word we often hear in the corporate meetings but seldom we experience it in the office environment. In the book “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change” the sixth habit is synergy and the author has explained how synergy works by many examples from the daily lives of various people.

In the book the author explains that often people misunderstand that synergy is something that is mystical and it’s not up to us to achieve it.

ILP(initial learning program) is a training program offered by TCS(Tata Consultancy Services) for all the freshers in the IT Industry who joined TCS as their first company. I had many wonderful experiences in ILP and it was one the best time of my life.

As the author explained about synergy I got to know that I also once have experienced synergy at the workplace and that too in my ILP. Though we were very new to software making processes at that time but the way we did all the work was really awesome and it was truly a synergistic experience. Too bad that I have never experienced it again in my corporate life after ILP, I believe too much professionalism of the colleagues got in a way since we started thinking too much about ourselves than the project.

The author shares that to create anything big we have to have synergy and also reveals how to achieve it systematically in any environment.

Why is Consistency Important

Good morning everyone. How are you doing today

I am here with a video after a long time and I want to share why. Remember how active I was in the early days of posting my videos, I was energetic and enthusiastic and very punctual.

Then there was a gap, I went to my hometown and got a little bit ill after that; which came in a way of my routine of posting one video per week.

For the last 2 weeks, I am perfectly fine and awesome and I know I have to publish one video per week but for some reason I am not doing it and that is the thing I want to talk to you about in this video.

When we start something new we are very energetic, enthusiastic and nothing can stop us from doing the things we want to do and that phase is just awesome. Then comes the consistency part which equally important because in this phase we have to continue doing the things that we have started in the first place.

Seth Godin releases a daily journal on his website and he has been doing this since ages and he says that the secret of publishing one content every day is that he does not give himself an option of not publishing and the content take care of itself.

the Consistency builds up the momentum, it creates a habit of doing things and which makes things easy.

Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, the 11th president of India once said: “You can not change your future, but you can change your habits, and surely your habits will change your future”.
I always remind myself of this statement and I want you to understand the importance of habit.

Habits make things easy it creates momentum and we encounter less difficulty in doing things that we do. May 13, 2016 at 10:19PM faisal raza #anideaaday

The win-win Strategy

The win-win strategy was the term I often used to hear in corporate meetings and other business places and as the word suggests it simply means winning for the both parties involved in the deal which is pretty straight forward and self-explanatory. What I never heard of was below five other strategies :
  • Win
  • Lose
  • Win-lose
  • Lose-win
  • Lose-lose
So there is basically 6 type of strategies that are possible in a deal and it was an eye opener for me to understand the nature of the people behind this different kind of deals.

In our daily life too every time we converse with the other person, we go through any one of the strategy mentioned above. I got to know, how courage and empathy plays a very important role in a win-win strategy from the book “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People: Powerful Lessons in Personal Change”.

A person with low self-respect will never accomplish a win-win deal and probably would lose in his deals every time likewise, a person running low on empathy and respect for the other person would only think about his win and so on.

The reason why so many marriages fail is because the people involved don’t think win-win, it’s that simple. With that said it’s not easy to play win-win every time and it requires a lot of effort to do so.

To let the other person win we have to see things from his point of view which is a difficult thing to do and we normally don’t care too much about the other person which leads to conflict in a long run.
