The beauty of doing what we love to do

Time and time again I get a call or a message that I am working really hard and doing a great job by publishing one article every day and how difficult it must have been for me to do this consistently.

The concept of doing the things we love to do is really awesome and I first got to know about this from the famous commencement speech by Steve Jobs at Stanford University. I have listened to that speech many times and every time I find something new from it.

The beauty of doing what we love to do is that it doesn’t count as work anymore and it is difficult to make the other person understand if he doesn’t know what it is to be in love with something. The time which I invest in writing is one of the most productive time of the day and it completes the day in some way.

That makes me wonder how fulfilling the lives of those people are who do the things they love to do for the living. Working on design and creating great products was the thing that Steve Jobs loved to do, performing live and playback singing was the thing that Kishore Kumar loved to do, and this list includes all those people who are extremely successful in their profession only because they are doing the things they love to do.

I am very grateful to God that I found something I love to do even if I am able to it only after the office hours.

Why It’s Important to Switch Company

There are many reasons why I left TCS and one of them is because it was my first company and I wanted to know how it is to work in a completely different environment. It was a very scary decision at that time but looking at the possibilities and opportunities of today I believe it was worth it.

While working in one environment for a long time we tend to feel that the world around us is the actual world. However the world that we see is very different from the world other people see and there are a lot of things that we don’t know. There are innumerable possibilities and opportunities everywhere and unless we get out of our comfort zone we wouldn’t know anything about it.

The biggest drawback of a desk job specifically in IT industry is that we tend to interact with a very small number of people, I mean really small and they are very nice people but the idea of interacting only with a fraction of people is not exciting to me.

I believe life can be more fulfilling if we interact with more people and add value to their lives in some ways, it’s difficult but possible.

Bullying in Corporate Culture

There is a new kind of bullying that is going on in the corporate culture.

Saying no is frowned upon and it takes a lot of courage and guts to say no to things we don’t like in office. The higher management uses this fact and exploits the underlings big time.

It’s only up to the underling to step up and say no. It is a really hard thing to do because it requires maturity and awareness.

We can’t teach people how to say no to the things they don’t like to do it’s something that can only be developed from the inside. It’s something that they would learn only after spending a significant amount of time at work.

If you are stuck and you have nowhere to go, saying no would be a hard thing to do irrespective of the challenge it could pose and you would probably say yes to anything and everything.

That is why it is important to grow in life, to say no to things we don’t like.

Getting A Job You Love

Couple of days back I was chatting with one of my friends over tea and he said he would rather have 5 days a week job than 6 days a week because it will give him time to do the things he really wanted to do and make some money out of it.

It is really awesome to think like this and he is very productive, and many of us who are really hard working and want to do something great, think exactly like this.

Well, wouldn’t it be awesome if he would search for a job where he really likes the work not just for money but also for the nature of the work, so that the it doesn’t feel like working.

jobGetting a job which fulfill not only financially but also spiritually, where we connect with the vision of the company is much more important. It’s very simple, if we love our work we will not feel like working instead we would like to work even more since we would be enjoying it.
I remember my time during training in TCS, we use to work 7 days a week from 9 AM till 9 PM, and if given a chance I would love to do that again. I was really enjoying that time.
I have a friend of mine who likes to code, he code in office , at his home everywhere. He is passionate about coding.
With that said, What are you passionate about?
If you are not passionate about anything, better find something otherwise you will be leading an unconscious life, doing the things which you don’t even know why you are doing it in the first place, and if you have something you are passionate about do something about it. Look around, all the things which are built around you is a fantastic work of some crazy passionate people, who started just like us.
I believe we all can find a job that we strive for and love.
Thank you,
